Being Thankful

The dictionary definition of thankful is – pleased and relieved. In honor of Thanksgiving let me explain a few things that I am thankful for:

  1. I am thankful for the Air Force. Yup, I said it. Most people complain about silly things the military “makes” them do, guilty! Besides complaining about the small stuff, I really am relieved to be able to provide for myself and give my son the life that he is living. I have great health care – for the most part. I get “free” education, well $4500 a year to take classes. I have a great house in a safe neighborhood. I get to do things that not a lot of people get to experience. Some days are hard, I have spent over 15 hours “working”. I worked holidays and crazy shifts, but not once was I worried about what was going to happen tomorrow.
  2. I am thankful for my family. For Owen and his dad, for Austin, for my dad and brother, and most of my family. I am relieved that one is seeking the help they need and hope that they get better – story for another time – but they are not actively in my life. My son is such a wonderful light in my life. He gets on my nerves, but all he has to do is smile and look at me with his cute eyes and everything is just ok. He is a mama’s boy and I hope that he stays that way forever. I love watching him learn and grow. Of course I am thankful for his dad, cause without him Owen wouldn’t be here. And he is a wonderful dad, Owen is really lucky to have so many people who care so deeply about him. Well the rest of you on that list, you know why I’m thankful for you.
  3. I am thankful for all my friends that I have made over the years, a few I want to express just how grateful I am for you. Destyn, you have been my rock since high school. We have been through so much together and you are truly the best friend that anyone can have. You have helped me through just about every hardship, and always remind me that you love me. Thank you. I love you best friend. To my twin, Brianna. I am so thankful for our friendship and so glad that over our 3 years in Alaska together we grew and made so many memories. You got me through some shit and made my time there fun, even if we did almost get eaten by some bears a few times. Tabitha, girl you have to be my fastest best friend I ever made. I am so thankful for the kind of friendship we have. You will always be my first mom friend that I connected to. To all my friends, thank you for being there for me. I know distance and time spent apart will not hinder our friendship in anyway.
  4. I am thankful for quality time. That is one of my strongest love language – if you don’t know your love language, you need to go find out – Love Language – So today I am going to try and keep my phone down and spend one on one with my family, because it is much needed. Sometimes we get so caught up in daily life we forget to slow down. For me it is taking the time to read the same book twenty times so Owen can laugh when I read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

Take time today to do the things that you don’t do every day, read that book for the thousandth time, take a bubble bath. Whatever you need to do to be pleased and relieved.

Comment below what you are thankful for.
